I'm really bummed out. It's the end of SCI FICTION. No more new fiction after the end of 2005. You can read the bad news here. Editor Ellen Datlow's farewell message is there too.
I did not like every story in SciFiction, but they were all well-crafted and readable. I also got a big kick out of the weekly "reprints" of older stories from the protean days of the genre. I think I might miss that most.
And not to be entirely mercenary about the site's demise, but SciFiction paid well, too, far and away the best rates for short fiction among genre publications. It seems ominous that such a well-loved, critically acclaimed and top-paying venue for speculative and fantastic short fiction is gone.
